The government wants to see a dramatic and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in starting and delivering clinical research with the aim of increasing the number of patients who have the opportunity to participate in research.
As part of our research performance reporting to the Department of Health under the ‘Performance in Initiating and Delivering Clinical Research Initiative’, we are required to publish information about whether we set up and deliver research in a timely manner.
We have to provide information about:
- Recruitment to clinical trials – whether the 70 day benchmark to recruit the first patient into a trial has been met (Performance in initiating clinical research)
- Recruiting the target number of patients to a trial within the target time (Performance in delivering clinical research)
‘Performance in Initiating and Delivering Clinical Research’ is an initiative by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
