West London NHS Trust has passed another important milestone as it gets ready to open the new Broadmoor hospital later this year. An external independent review has rated the Trust’s preparations for staff and patients to move in as green – the highest possible rating.
The review team, who visited Broadmoor earlier this month, found:
- That the new hospital will deliver significant benefits to patients, to aid their recovery
- A consistent focus on the primacy of patient safety and security
- Levels of staff and patient involvement in the project, and in planning for the move, to be “exemplary”. The review recommended that the work the Trust has done to build relationships with staff, patients and other stakeholders should be documented and shared with the wider NHS
- An excellent risk culture.
Carolyn Regan, West London NHS Trust’s Chief Executive, said: “I am pleased that the independent review has confirmed that the project has been well-managed, that patient and staff engagement has been exemplary, and that our staff are ready to go, from the moment that patients move in.
“The green rating is testimony to the professionalism and expertise of our staff. There have been a number of frustrations along the way, but the Trust has never wavered in our commitment to getting the new hospital complete.
“The new hospital buildings will transform the environment at Broadmoor, providing modern, safe, therapeutic conditions that encourage hope and recovery among patients. We are really looking forward to moving in.”
