What is this consultation about?
In defining West London Mental Health NHS Trust’s corporate strategy, the Trust has taken a decision to broaden the range of services it provides, to include a range of non-mental health, community and public health services. This means it’s also appropriate to look at whether the name of the Trust fully reflects this range of services.
This consultation is therefore about 2 things:
- The Trust’s 5 year strategy
- Renaming the Trust
1) The Trust’s Strategy
In defining West London Mental Health NHS Trust’s corporate strategy, the Trust has taken a decision to broaden the range of services it provides, to include a range of non-mental health, community and public health services.
In 2015, the Trust successfully tendered for One You Ealing, Home ward Ealing and the Community Independence Service in Hammersmith and Fulham, with a combined income of circa £13m per year.
We anticipate bidding for additional community services in the near future and, whilst maintaining our position as major provider of comprehensive mental health services, seek to position ourselves as a leading provider and partner for integrated whole person care.
The strategy sets out the high level direction for 5 years. It shows where we want to be and how we will get there. The detailed finance and operational information is set out in our 2 year integrated business plan. The business plan is how we deliver the strategy year by year. The annual report and accounts show how we are accountable for the money we spend and the outcomes for our services.
The slides linked here summarise our strategy for the future and we welcome your views.
2) Renaming the Trust
In the context of the strategy, you are invited to give your views on renaming options for the Trust, as follows:
- West London Partnerships NHS Trust
- West London NHS Trust
- Other………Please suggest (NHS England has identity guidelines, so ideas must meet these requirements).
Dr Christopher Hilton, Director of Business and Strategy said:
“WLMHT is proud to provide a wide spectrum of mental health services, from those promoting mental wellbeing, self-referral and primary care services in our three London boroughs, right the way through to specialised and renowned services such as Broadmoor Hospital and The Cassel, and everything in between, and there’s no question that we remains committed to continuing to deliver and develop these services which are our great strength.
“However, throughout the Trust we are increasingly moving towards provision of whole-person care, both in partnership and directly ourselves, and in the last few years we’ve been supporting more patients whose primary need is not mental health (such as in One You Ealing our public health team, or Home ward Ealing, which provides mainly physical health and social care). It’s our strategy to develop more integrated services in the future. To help us achieve this, it is essential that our organisational identity and strategy is inclusive of this aspiration.”
