Commenting on the Department of Health’s announcement regarding mental health staffing, Carolyn Regan, Chief Executive at West London Mental Health NHS Trust said:
“Mental health has never been on people’s minds more than it is right now and the NHS needs to seize the moment and use it to attract new people to work in the sector.
“This announcement is great news for the long term future of mental healthcare in England. One of our biggest challenges is recruiting and retaining staff, especially so when you consider the additional pressures of living and working in a high cost area like London.
“We also know that a well-motivated and supported workforce is one of the best ways to provide high quality patient care and that is why we already have a comprehensive programme of development opportunities in place for all our staff.
“It is a hugely exciting time for us as Trust. Next year will see the new Broadmoor Hospital open and we have an ambitious programme in place to transform our local services in West London.
“Over the coming weeks, the detail of how these additional staff will be recruited will be essential as we work at a local level to deliver on the priorities set out in the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health.”
