A project to improve digital inclusion for vulnerable people in Ealing has been shortlisted for an award.

The Powering Recovery Project is in the running for the Digital Inclusion Award at this year’s ISPA Awards.

The ISPA Awards are the longest running broadband and internet awards, judged by a panel of industry experts.

Over the past 12 months, the Powering Recovery Project has made significant strides in providing digital devices and tailored support to tackle digital inequalities, positively impacting individual wellbeing and empowering service users to navigate the digital landscape post-Covid.

Katerina Manginas, the Healthier Lifestyle Service Lead, said: “Being shortlisted for the Digital Inclusion Award at the ISPA Awards is a proud moment for the Powering Recovery Project.

“Our journey in Ealing has been about empowering vulnerable individuals through digital devices and tailored support, positively impacting wellbeing and increasing access to NHS online service. We are very grateful for the recognition”

The project has seen most success in enhancing digital literacy, helping support 152 people to learn essential digital skills and build confidence online.

It’s also helped improve access to healthcare with participants learning how to access online resources, for example, booking appointments and requesting prescriptions, and engaging in virtual support networks.

Providing short and long-term digital devices, including smartphones and tablets has been key to the project. So far, the team has given out 160 devices and data cards and helped 152 participants to develop their skills.

Finally, the project has helped boost social connection, reducing feelings of isolation and boosting participants’ sense of belonging.

The main aim of the project was to help tackle the reduced access to mental and community health services as a result of Covid-19, particularly those with disabilities or from marginalised backgrounds.

The Digital Inclusion Award is part of the shared ambition between ISPA and Good Things Foundation to raise awareness of digital inclusion.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday 9 November.

The project has been funded by the West London NHS Charity and is partnered with the third sector include Dementia Concern, Mind in Ealing and Ealing community and voluntary sector.
