Carolyn Regan CBE, Chief Executive Officer of West London NHS Trust has announced that she will be retiring from her position after an impressive four decades working in public service.

Carolyn has announced her intention to retire from her current role at the end of December 2023. Since 2015, under her leadership as CEO, the Trust has achieved remarkable success, rated 'Outstanding' in many areas by the Care Quality Commission and 'Good' overall as a Trust.

Carolyn has been a passionate champion for tackling health inequalities and giving a voice to under-represented parts of our community. By championing inclusivity and fairness, she has driven positive change, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, receives the highest quality of care.

She was recently recognised for her extraordinary contribution by being awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in His Majesty the King’s Birthday Honours list, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to public service.

Carolyn Regan CBE, Chief Executive of West London NHS Trust said:

“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to lead West London, watching it grow and develop in confidence and see its achievements over the last seven years.

"The organisation is now in a much better place to face the future in the brave new world of Integrated Care Services, and to play a consistent role in the new landscape. There is never the perfect time, but I do feel that this is the right moment for me and the Trust.

“I will be retiring from full time work after over 40 years working in public service and third sector organisations. None of this would have been possible without the encouragement and commitment of the Trust Board, my Executive Directors and the outstanding staff of West London.”

Elizabeth Rantzen, Chair of West London NHS Trust said:

"Carolyn has given notice of her intention to step down from her role now so that we can begin the search for her successor and ensure that there is adequate time for a comprehensive handover. I would like to thank Carolyn for her service to West London NHS Trust. Her visionary leadership, dedication to addressing health inequalities, and unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care, have left an indelible mark on the West London Trust and the wider NHS.

“She has set the tone for our commitment to compassionate excellence and she has shown exceptional leadership throughout one of the most challenging periods of the health service, which has been one of the most demanding and prolonged challenges that any chief executive could face.

"Carolyn is rightly very proud of our position as one of the most diverse and innovative trusts in the UK, which is a testament to the work of our staff. I am now working with the Board on the recruitment of her successor and will keep staff informed on the next steps.”

Dr Penny Dash, Chair of the North West London Integrated Care System, said:

“Carolyn has been a hugely influential and effective chief executive at West London NHS Trust and has played a key leadership role for the Integrated Care System (ICS) in both mental health and tackling health inequalities. Her insight, integrity, passion and sound judgement will be much missed across North West London and we wish her the very best for the future.”
