De-escalation skills training featured in the Nursing Times

Melville Jimmy Garber, Practice Development Nurse – De-escalation, is a leading voice in promoting best practices of de-escalation skills in managing violence and conflict within healthcare settings. His passionate work has been published in the Nursing Times, highlighting the importance of de-escalation skills training and the need for better training in managing these situations.

Reflecting on his work, Melville shared: “I have witnessed significant aggression and violence in healthcare settings, including acute mental health wards and Accident and Emergency. In 2022, with the support of visionary nurse leaders, I launched the Scenario Video Project at West London NHS Trust, co-producing ten short films to educate staff on self-awareness and humanistic care. This initiative was shortlisted for six national healthcare awards, including commendations from the Nursing Times.”
