In your own words, who are you?

I am a child of an immigrant navigating through life in foreign lands always stuck in the in-between. A woman who enjoys literature and plays but loves hearing music in her mother tongue, a mother to my beautiful girls watering them and watching them bloom is my greatest achievement and joy.

What does the theme ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ mean to you?

Reclaiming narratives for me means taking back our stories and retelling it in its truest voice. Giving homage to our ancestors, giving space to their pain and triumphs. Holding all of it deep inside of us as we build and grow.

Name one of your favourite black heroes (British or International) and why they’re a favourite.

Maya Angelou. She had such a way with words, she also overcame a lot in her early years and she was a pioneer for women of colour.

What’s one way that we reclaim our narrative?

I think one way we can always reclaim our narratives is to be authentic to ourselves regardless of how others may see it.
