This Stoptober, Ealing Smokefree Service is introducing a new programme to help residents quit smoking.
To mark the campaign, the service is launching a "swap-to-stop" scheme, offering patients access to free e-cigarettes as a healthier alternative to smoking.
In collaboration with Totally Wicked, Ealing Community Partners will provide participants with a vape starter pack, including a device and e-liquid tailored to their preferred strength and flavour.
As e-cigarettes become the most popular method for quitting smoking—with nearly three million UK users and 53% of them being ex-smokers—this scheme aims to support local residents in making the transition.
Katerina Manginas, Service Manager of Ealing Smokefree Service, said: "At Ealing Smokefree Service, we’re committed to helping residents take control of their health and quit smoking for good.
“Our new swap-to-stop scheme is an exciting addition to the support we offer, providing a safer alternative to cigarettes.
“With personalised advice and a range of tools like e-cigarettes and nicotine replacement therapies, there’s never been a better time to make the change. We’re here to guide and support every step of the way."
E-cigarettes are estimated to be 95% less harmful than tobacco, offering a safer alternative for those looking to quit.
To join the swap-to-stop scheme, patients must complete a referral (either self-referred or through their GP), be a current smoker, and undergo a carbon monoxide test. They will also take part in an initial session where staff will assess their needs and devise a personalised quitting strategy.
The Ealing Smokefree Service provides a free eight-week programme to support smokers through their quit journey. The service offers a patient-centred approach, with weekly consultations available face-to-face, virtually, or over the phone. Along with behavioural support, patients can access a range of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products, including slow-release patches and fast-acting lozenges, sprays, and inhalators, all tailored to individual needs.
With smokers five times more likely to quit in October, Stoptober presents an ideal opportunity for Ealing residents to make the switch and begin their smoke-free journey.
