Dr Derek Tracy, Chief Medical Officer, at West London NHS Trust is one of seven winners chosen to receive the Royal College of Psychiatrist's (RcPsych) President’s medal.

The announcement was made at the recent RcPsych International Congress in Edinburgh.

These unique awards are chosen solely by the President, with endorsement by the College’s Officers, in recognition of unique contributions to the profession.

The citation noted Professor Tracy's “contribution to policy, public knowledge, education, and meeting population and patient care needs in diverse and challenging circumstances.”

Derek said: “I am delighted and humbled to receive this award, but not as excited as my mum, whom I’ve promised to fly over from Dublin to be with me, when I formally receive the medal at a ceremony in the College in November.”

In addition to his role at the Trust, Derek is also Honorary Professor for Brunel University Medical School, Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's, Imperial, and University College London, and Editor for Public Engagement, with the British Journal of Psychiatry.

We congratulate him and are proud of all his efforts and achievements.
