We are thrilled to announce that Dr Rupali Acharya, a consultant psychiatrist for our Ealing Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities, has been awarded an Imperial College London School of Medicine (ICSM) Education Award for Teaching Excellence.

Nominated by her colleague, Dr Sam Nayrouz, Dr Acharya was praised for her commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate medical students.

Dr Nayrouz said: "Rupali is a highly driven and inspiring trainer and educator who is passionate about teaching undergraduate medical students and preparing them to become clinicians of a high standard. Her contribution to the undergraduate medical training at the Trust for the last six years has been outstanding, and the feedback from medical students on her teaching has always been excellent. Rupali deserves this prestigious award without a shadow of a doubt."

Since 2003, the Imperial College School of Medicine, in collaboration with the School of Medicine Students' Union, has recognised staff excellence in delivering undergraduate programmes through an annual awards programme. Recently rebranded as the ICSM Education Awards, the awards celebrate a wide range of contributions to the success of both medicine and medical biosciences programmes, including teaching, tutoring, and student support.

Dr Acharya said: “Dr Nayrouz, Consultant Psychiatrist and Director of Medical Education has been instrumental in introducing such opportunities. Thank you to Dr Nayrouz, Dr Zara Azim-Naqvi, Specialty Doctor and Annette McMayo, Undergraduate Teaching Coordinator for their support.”

This year marks a significant milestone as the awards ceremony returns to an in-person format at the South Kensington campus. The event featured expanded celebrations and discussions, fostering a sense of community among colleagues and students.

Please join us in congratulating Dr Acharya for this well-deserved recognition and in celebrating her remarkable achievements in medical education.
