We’re thrilled to announce the Trust’s Perinatal team, have won the Skills for Health “Our Health Heroes” award for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion category!
The national awards for the healthcare workforce, Our Health Heroes recognises and honours the hard work carried out daily by thousands of staff across the UK.
The team were recognised for their efforts to develop and support, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives. This included working with minority ethnic communities to increase awareness of Perinatal mental health support available to mothers by producing a film as part of their community outreach work.
The team produced the “Mother Tongue, Motherhood and Mental health” film, in eight different languages including Cantonese, Arabic, Punjabi, Urdu, Swahili, Tamil, Polish and British Sign Language
The film was co-produced by services users who share their experience of Perinatal mental illness and seeking help, in their native language. The film was made to reach those who may face barriers when accessing mental health services due to language or cultural differences. This helped increase awareness and decrease stigma of Perinatal mental health issues within minorities and under-served communities.
The team were commended on their work with women and birthing people, their partners, expert by experience groups and local faith/community groups, amongst others.
The team said: “We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and want to express our gratitude to everyone who has and is supporting us. This includes filmmaker, Jodie Holland @jodiehollandfilm and our dedicated staff, partners, and the communities we serve. Your encouragement fuels our passion for promoting equality and diversity, and we’re committed to continuing this important work together.”
