Ashleigh McLeod, Speech and Language Therapist at West London NHS Trust, presented at the 12th European Speech and Language Association Congress, in Brugge, last month.

The conference featured a diverse range of presentations and keynote speeches from professionals, highlighting cutting-edge research relevant to the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) field.

Ashleigh, who works with the Ealing Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities, gave an oral presentation on her research project titled Supporting people with complex communication needs to make decisions about where and how they live: an exploration of speech pathology practice.

She completed this research as part of her Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) in Australia last year, before moving to England. She and her supervisors are currently working to get the paper published.

Ashleigh said: “It was a fantastic experience! It was an honour to be among some highly regarded speakers, and other speech therapists from all across Europe who were eager to learn about the latest research. Conducting my research project in Australia has felt quite separate from my work as an SLT in England, so it was exciting to share the results and consider the practical applications with like-minded clinicians.”
