Occupational therapists provide advice and support to parents, carers and other professionals, working across a range of settings, such as home, school and clinics. This includes:
- Improving quality of life for children and families
- Minimising barriers to participation in activities
- Reducing the impact of disability
- Promoting independence and self-management.
The team works with children and young people who experience functional difficulties in taking part in daily living activities because of illness, injury, developmental difficulties or neurodisability.
Children and young people with the following conditions may benefit from occupational therapy input:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Developmental co-ordination disorders, for example, dyspraxia
- Developmental delay and learning disabilities
- Physical disabilities, for example, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy
- Preterm and low birth weight babies
- Profound or multiple learning disabilities
- Sensory processing difficulty affecting functional participation.
We accept referrals from parents, carers, or professionals on receipt of a completed referral form accompanied by written consent from the child or young person's parent or guardian.
We’ll accept the referral if the child or young person:

- Is aged 0-18 years (unless they attend an Ealing special school where we provide a service, in which case we’ll take referrals up to the age of 19)
- Has a difficulty or difficulties participating in functional tasks in self-care, productivity or leisure.
