The Care Home In-Reach Liaison Service (CHILS) aims to support residents with behaviours that challenge within care home settings. It's an extension to the existing Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Services (CIDS) and Specialist Older Adults Mental Health Services (SOAMHS). The CHILS team provides “proactive care that is centred on the needs of residents, their families and care home staff” (Enhanced Health in Care Homes Framework, 2023).
CHILS is providing services to residents of selected care homes in the borough of Ealing. The focus is on:
- Consultation: working directly with care home providers to provide bespoke support.
- Interventions: we are using the Newcastle Model approach, which will develop positive behavioural support plans in collaboration with care home staff.
- Training and support: upskilling care home staff in dementia and mental health conditions, to manage behaviours that challenge.
- Advice and guidance: providing care homes with enhanced access to specialist advice and support from CHILS.
If you would like to refer a resident to CHILS or require additional information, please e-mail the CHILS team at: wlm-tr.chils@nhs.net
