Electro-convulsive therapy

John Conolly Suite
Ealing Hospital

020 8354 8189

Service summary

The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has produced guidelines about when Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) can be used. We follow best practice advice to determine the frequency and duration of a course of ECT treatment.

Before ECT is started, you’ll be asked to agree to the treatment. If you don’t give your consent, it can’t be given unless doctors decide the situation is an emergency.

We offer support and information for people using the service and for their carers, both before and after ECT treatment.
